| QUINTETO URBANO | Jazz Contemporáneo Argentino
Quinteto Urbano was formed in 1999, and since then it had an uninterrupted
activity in local and international venues. All members are young
musicians with a wide professional experience. The quintets
main characteristic is the combination of two elements: on one side,
a jazz classic format and on the other, compositional elements of
Argentine popular music. The repertoire is an all-original program
in which improvisation and interplay are developed in depth, creating
a very particular blend of influences. Moreover, Quinteto Urbano
has achieved a personal dynamic as a group due to the regularity
of live performances and the shared leadership among all five members.
In June 2000, they released their first album entitled "Quinteto
Urbano Jazz Contemporáneo Argentino", which was
enthusiastically received by the critics and a big seller in the
jazz category. In October 2000, the group performed at "Siete
Lagos International Jazz Festival", where relevant artists
such as Michael Brecker, Nicholas Payton, Dave Holland, John Patitucci
and Dino Saluzzi also played.
Quinteto Urbano released in November 2001 their second album, an
ambitious two CD project entitled "Jazz Contemporáneo
Argentino ll (Estudio+Vivo)", which was welcomed, once more,
by both the public and the specialized press.
In 2003, Quinteto Urbano performed at the International Jazz Festival
of Providencia (Chile), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Terrassa (Spain),
and released its third CD, "En Subida", on the european
label Fresh
Sound New Talent, therefore starting its international exposure.
